Against The Grain series
I had the idea for this series for awhile. I wanted to get away from my usual style, and go in a new direction where I evolved prosesses I was aready using. I wanted to try something that I hadn't seen done before, and experiment a bit, and that's when I have the most fun. The first round of pieces in this series, involves no paints for the most part, just wood, wood stain, and nails. The layered more grid-like abstract pieces that followed, incorporate a vivid and wide variety of colors, created pieces that are both simple and complex at the same time. And finally for the most recent pieces, I've started combining all of those ideas, creating works with vague/decaying portraits that are hidden within the layered abstract backgrounds.
